This blog is an incredibly special one. I first met Amanda in August 2019 when she asked me to photograph her maternity pictures. Since then, I have had the privilege to work with her lovely family on several occasions. I have become quite fond of working with her family is honestly always such a joy! Earlier this year she, reached out to me about photographing Emberly's smash cake session and also asked me if I would be willing to do a special CHD-themed session too. Discovering that they have this daunting journey ahead of them breaks my heart. Being a parent can be stressful enough, but with the challenges that Amanda and Emberly will face, this family deserves an award.

CHD stands for Congenital Heart Defect and in many children, this disease occurs by chance. Each year, about 1 out of every 100 babies are born with some type of CHD. That’s one baby every 15 minutes. This means that every 15 minutes a new CHD story begins altering the course of a family's life in unpredictable ways. It’s the most common birth defect worldwide and the leading cause of infant death in the U.S. CHD affects approximately 1.8 million families in the US. There is no cure or prevention for CHD, it is a lifelong disease. It’s a proven fact that the earlier CHD is detected and treated, it is more likely the affected child will survive and have less long term health complications. Because of this, awareness and funding for CHDs are vital and an important mission. Help me spread awareness and raise support for the individuals and families affected by sharing this post or by making a donation to The Children's Heart Foundation.
